President’s Message

A message from the president and Canadian Board of Directors

A warm welcome to all visitors to our Website!

A grateful thank-you to all who support us!

I would like to start by introducing three very important people in India: Mrs. Sitaramya Vignesh. Ramya is responsible for the day to day running of SKGA, and is also the Head Mistress of the school. She holds degrees in Social Work and Education. Ramya was raised at the Ashram from infancy, so she really understands better than anyone, the needs of the people who live there and how things function.

Also, two women who have lived and worked in the Ashram for more than forty years.  They held leadership positions when I first went there in 1978: Miss Vasantha Kumari and Miss Subbamma

Vasantha and Subbamma are like family to me.  They have dedicated their entire lives to the children.

As I write this in May, 2021, the Covid-19 Pandemic could hardly be worse in India, and the Ashram has closed its doors; no one is allowed in.  The school functions online only.  SKGA normally houses around 150 children. At the moment there are 84 in total in the two rural campuses and no one is allowed in or out. In New Lands at Kanyakumari there had been only seven children, all have been moved to the main campus, along with three staff. Fortunately, there have been no cases at all among the staff and children but there is great concern.

Once again, along with our Board members, we thank you for your support.

Peter Lakin, President.
